Numerical Simulation of Turbulent Bubbly Flows

چکیده
A mathematical model for turbulent gas-liquid flows with mass transfer and chemical reactions is presented and a robust solution strategy based on nested iterations is proposed for the numerical treatment of the intricately coupled PDEs. In particular, the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by a discrete projection scheme from the family of Pressure Schur Complement methods. Novel high-resolution finite element schemes of FCT and TVD type are employed for the discretization of unstable convective terms. The implementation of a modified k − ε turbulence model is described in detail. The performance of the developed simulation tools is illustrated by a number of three-dimensional numerical examples.

Overview of Direct Numerical Simulation of Particle Entrainment in Turbulent Flows
An overview of removal and re-entrainment of particles in turbulent flows is presented. The procedure for the direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the Navier-Stokes equation via a pseudospectral method for simulating the instantaneous fluid velocity field is described. Particle removal mechanisms in turbulent flows in a duct are examined and effects of the near-wall coherent eddies on the parti...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of upward air-water annular, slug and bubbly flow regimes
In this paper, numerical investigation of upward two phase flow of air-water has been studied. Different conditions of flow regimes including annular, wispy annular, slug, churn and bubbly are simulated based on Hewitt and Roberts map, and a good agreement between the experimental data of the map and the numerical simulation has been observed. Accordingly, a proper CFD model in CFD software of ...
متن کاملStudies of Bubbly Channel Flows by Direct Numerical Simulations
Recent DNS studies of buoyant bubbly flows in vertical channels are discussed. Simulations of nearly spherical bubbly flows in vertical channels show that the bubbles move towards the wall for upflow and away from the wall for downflow in such a way that the core is in hydrostatic equilibrium. For downflow the wall layer is free of bubbles but for upflow there is an excess of bubbles in the wal...
